The Action is part of the “Alexandroupoli-Ormenio” Global Project which aims to upgrade the existing railway line into a double-track electrified railway line, which is a central part of a larger railway corridor between Thessaloniki–Kavala–Alexandroupolis–Bourgas-Varna–Ruse, known as the “Sea2Sea” project.

The present Action corresponds to part of phase A of the Global Project and covers the preliminary studies concerning the 62 km-long “Pythio-Ormenio” section, located on the TEN-T comprehensive network, in order to upgrade it into a double-track railway line of increased capacity, equipped with modern signalling, telecommanding, telecommunication and electrification systems in full compliance with TEN-T requirements set out by Regulation 1315/2013.

The Action includes the elaboration of the following studies:

  • Preliminary design studies;
  • Environmental Impact Assessment leading to the issuance of the Environmental Terms;
  • Cost-benefit analysis for the global project (i.e. on the entire Alexandroupoli-Ormenio railway line). However only the costs for the "Pythio-Ormenio" section will be eligible under this Action;
  • Tender documents for part of phase B of the global project concerning the "Pythio–Ormenio" section
