Economically viable transport services on the Danube are dependent on stable fairway conditions. The Romanian-Bulgarian common section of the Danube, from river km 845.5 (Timok) to river km 375 (Silistra), is a free flowing section characterised by variable hydrodynamic conditions (seasonal level variations of about 8 meters), frequent fairway alterations and river bed erosion.

This Action, in the framework of the Global Project to implement the Fairway Rehabilitation and Maintenance Danube Master Plan, aims to carry out pilot capital dredging works to reinstate a good navigation status along the most critical Romanian-Bulgarian common sector.
