The Action, involving two Member States and a neighbouring country, aimed at implementing an innovative ICT traffic management platform for inland waterway transport. The studies improved the overall logistic processes in 9 inland ports on the Rhine-Alpine Core Network Corridor.
The Action included pilot deployment: an ICT traffic management platform at three ports in France, Germany and Switzerland; the feasibility study for the roll-out of the ICT traffic management platform at six other ports along the Upper Rhine and the conceptual design for the functional and geographical extension of the platform to non-containerised cargo, rail and truck hinterland traffic.
The Action led to higher efficiency in the inland waterway logistic processes. It also enhanced modal shift from road and rail transport to inland waterways.
