Secure parking areas are an important element of the logistics network and provide vital rest areas for drivers, helping to ensure safety for all road users and provide a higher security for goods, vehicles and drivers.

The objective of the Action was to develop a study aiming at upgrading safety and security in six parking areas for trucks and commercial vehicles in the vicinity of petrol stations in Spain.

The Action covered activities to optimize the use of parking places through provision of static and dynamic parking information and interconnection of networks through an online management platform specifically designed for this purpose. Innovative safety technologies have been implemented for the acquisition of information in order to provide reservation services in real time.

The pilot can be considered successful and the beneficiary has extended the six pilots to nines secure parking areas and three more are yet to be opened in the near future. Although the percentage of occupation is still not very high, some of the parking areas have achieved a 64% of occupation.
