The Action represents phase A of the Global Project regarding the construction of the new single-track Thessaloniki-Amphipolis-New Karvali high speed rail line with two-way signalling, electrification and tele-commanding. This new line is the southern section of the "Rail Egnatia" pre-identified section of the TEN-T Core Network.

In detail, the Action includes studies for:
• railway line (160 km in length)
• road network 155 km in length (side and intersecting)
• construction of around 26 km of tunnels
• construction of around 5.7 km of bridges
• stations and stops lay-out

The new railway corridor will connect the port of Kavala to the Thessaloniki-Alexandroupolis railway axis, thereby facilitating the transport of people and goods and reduce travel times. Additionally, it will increase road safety thanks to the grade-separated crossings between the road and the railway network.
