The overall objective of the 'APE-QUEST' Action is to boost CEF eTranslation with Automated Post-Editing (APE) & Quality Estimation (QE) for Electronic Exchange of Social Security Information (EESSI) and Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) Digital Service Infrastructures (DSIs) and related national services. The Action will achieve this aim by transparently (i.e. invisibly for the end-user) extending the existing translation workflow with a Quality Assurance process that consists of:

  1. Intercepting eTranslation traffic
  2. Applying QE to distinguish between high-quality, medium-quality, and low-quality MT output, as delivered by eTranslation
  3. Applying APE on medium-quality MT output
  4. Applying the Unbabel PE workflow on low-quality output
  5. Applying QE on the result of this workflow to inform downstream applications.

APE-QUEST will assist in improving existing online multilingual services and increasing usability by end-users with existing technology and will cover English, French, Portuguese and Dutch languages.

The Action will result in an increased accuracy of Machine Translation (MT) results that will foster trust in the system and subsequently increase the uptake of CEF eTranslation in two DSIs: ODR and EESSI.
