Migration and Home Affairs

What we do

One of the EU's fundamental objectives is to create an area of free movement where the rights and security of both EU citizens and non-EU nationals are guaranteed. Our aim is to ensure that people may undertake in a stable, lawful and secure environment all activities (cultural, social and economic) that further the EU's growth.

Our policies deal with migration and asylum, and internal security-related issues, such as organised crime, human trafficking and terrorism.

Several EU Agencies support EU States in coping with specific Home Affairs issues, such as asylum, border management or police cooperation.

Networks facilitate the exchange of ideas and information, and give the European Commission valuable input.
