The EMN Glossary improves comparability by enabling a common understanding and use of terms and definitions relating to asylum and migration. The Glossary draws on a variety of sources, but primarily on the legislation of the EU asylum and immigration acquis, and makes terms available in the majority of Member State languages.
This online version of the Glossary was updated in December 2015 with the addition of 29 new terms reflecting the most recent European policy on migration and asylum. This includes terms such as ‘Hotspot Approach’, ‘emergency response system’ and ‘personal interview for international protection’. Almost 250 amendments of existing words were also made (e.g. correcting or updating translations and amending and updating definitions).
This online version of the Glossary is version 3.0, which was published in October 2014 and is available for download as an interactive pdf version by following this link: English [7 MB] .
The EMN Glossary version 2.0 was published in a number of EU languages, as well as Arabic. These language versions are available here: Deutsch [4 MB] , Español [4 MB] , Français [4 MB] , Italiano [3 MB] , Português [4 MB] and Arabic [7 MB] . A German language version of Glossary 3.0 is in production and will soon be available.
