New agreement on the transfer of passengers' data improves EU-US cooperation in fighting crime and terrorism

Today, the European Union and the United States have initialled a new agreement on the transfer of passengers' data by air carriers operating flights from the EU territory to the US. The new agreement on Passenger Name Record (PNR) data brings additional clarity and legal certainty to citizens and carriers. It provides for better information sharing by US authorities with law enforcement and judicial authorities from the EU, a well defined limitation of the uses of PNR data and a series of enhanced data protection guarantees.
