Commission proposes visa-free regime to Moldova

The Commission proposed today to allow visa-free travel to the Schengen area for Moldovan citizens holding a biometric passport.

This proposal builds on the successful implementation by the Republic of Moldova of its Visa Liberalisation Action Plan (VLAP). In an assessment of the country's overall efforts, the Commission concluded that it meets all the benchmarks set in the VLAP.

Next steps in the visa facilitation and readmission agreements with Armenia

The European Commission has adopted the proposals for signature and closure of the visa facilitation and readmission agreements with Armenia today.

Visa facilitation agreement

Agreements between the EU and a non-EU country that facilitate the issuance by an EU State of authorisations to the citizens of that non-EU country for transiting through or an intended stay in the territory of EU States of a duration of no more than three months in any six-month period from the date of first entry into the territory of the EU States.

Readmission agreement

International agreement that addresses procedures, on a reciprocal basis, for one State to return non-nationals in an irregular situation to their home State or a State through which they have transited.

Readmission

Act by a State accepting the re-entry of an individual (own national, third-country national or stateless person).

Mobility partnership

Provide the overall framework for managing various forms of legal movement between the EU and non-EU countries. Such partnerships are agreed with those non-EU countries committed to fighting illegal immigration and that have effective mechanisms for readmission.
