Card-Not-Present (CNP) fraud involves the unauthorized use of payment card data (the credit or debit card number, the security code printed on the card and the expiration date) to purchase products and services in a non-face-to-face setting, such as e-commerce websites. In the majority of cases, the victims maintain possession of their card, unaware of the unauthorized activity. This illegal activity is often referred to as carding.
