Dental fluorosis

Definition:

A condition that results from exposure to fluoride while teeth are developing, from aroun 0-8 years of age. Too much fluoride disrupts normal production of enamel by the cells which lay it down (ameloblasts).

Mild fluorosis appears as small white patches on the teeth. More severe forms, due to very high fluoride build up, lead to stained, pitted or mottled teeth.
