On 29 May 2017, the Scientific Committee on Health, Environmental and Emerging and Risks (SCHEER) will organize a public hearing in Luxembourg on two scientific advices on breast implants and health.

The request made to the SCHEER for these two Scientific Advices is available here. The Scientific Advices are now published for comments until 15 June 2017.

The public hearing aims to present these documents and to gather specific comments, suggestions and explanations or contributions on their scientific basis.

The persons attending the hearing should be scientists with appropriate expertise in the field who can present and understand the scientific arguments. They should limit their presentations to scientific matters related to the subject (for example, to provide additional scientific evidence, discuss interpretation of data or clarify data). Invitees shall under no circumstances engage in public relations or lobbing activities. Risk management issues are outside the scope of the meeting.

Approval for participation to the hearing will be decided by the Commission on the basis of the following criteria:

  • participants should be scientists or technical experts with appropriate expertise in the field who are able to present and understand the scientific arguments;
  • participants have clearly identified the subject matter they would wish to contribute to and have provided sufficient technical justification;
