Statement of the project's aims Establishment of Community-wide Reproductive Health (RH) list of scientifically robust, understandable, accessible and ethical indicators. A coherent set of core indicators as well as proposed flexible and new indicators for needed and developmental areas will be recommended, in order to measure RH status, its determinants and trends. Development of a Community-wide network (in the frame of the EUPHIN-HIEMS) for sharing RH data, in order to facilitate the planning, monitoring and evaluation of Community Programmes and actions.
Provide Member States and
the scientific community with RH indicators to make
international and regional comparisons, and support
their national and regional health policies.

Statement of the project's aims Health promotion is included as an important core intervention strategy within both the current and future proposed Community Public Health Programme. It also forms a central framework for action to improve health within the policies of all Member States. Health promotion incorporates health education and is an umbrella for interventions which prevent disease and ill health ; educate people towards healthier lifestyles and/or address the wider social and environmental factors which influence people's health. There is currently a dearth of suitable indicators and related methodology and dissemination systems that can be used to monitor and evaluate health promotion at both Community and Member State levels. The proposed EUHPID Project aims to establish : - A common set of health promotion indicators to form part of the Community health monitoring system. - A suitable data collection system based on appropriate methodology. - A European dissemination strategy to set health promotion indicators within a practical policy context to assist decision makers and practitioners at both Community and Member State levels. |

Statement of the project's aims
To enhance the electronic
inventory of sources of morbidity data available in
Member States (MS), which was developed under the
previous ONS project, by filling the gaps in
information (through contact with the established
group of experts, and from reports and publications),
checking the accuracy of the stored information with
the providers, and developing a system to enable the

Statement of the project's aims The aims of the project are : - To develop a comprehensive list of health indicators useful for monitoring cancer in the countries of the European Union. The list will make it posible to monitor and evaluate the activities of the Member States in the areas of cancer management and control, in terms of cancer burden, prevention activity, standards of care, and cure rates. The list will include variables on the prevalence of risk factors ; pre-clinic acticity ; cancer occurrence ; clinical follow-up ; cancer recurrences ; patient survival ; diagnostic and therapeutic procedures ; effectiveness of cancer care ; outcome and care prevalence. The list will include a huge set of socio-economic, demographic health-related variables that will be useful in controlling cancer and improving the life expectancy of cancer patients. - To indicate standardised methods for collecting, checking and validating tha data and to find methods, procedures and techniques for analysing the results and making them available. - To incorporate this proposed list into a larger comprehensive surveillance list, prepared for the European Union Health Monitoring Programme.
All the main European
networks (ENCR, Eurocare, Europreval, the Networks
for Cervical and Breast Cancer Screening, and
Concord), institutions, hospitals, and international
agencies (WHO, IARC, and OECD) concerned with cancer
will be involved.

Statement of the project's aims The EU Health Monitoring Programme (HMP) wants to establish for data collection, exchange and reporting in the field of Public Health, in order to facilitate the monitoring of trends, differences and policy impact throughout the EU. Within this programme, Pillar A is envisaged (1) to establish a set of EU health indicators, (2) to select relevant information and data for exchange, and (3) to undertake the conceptual and methodological work which is needed to achieve this.
During 1999 and 2000, a
project has been funded which was focussed on the
above item (1) : "Integrated approach to establishing
European Community Health Indicators (ECHI)". This
project has provided a proposal for framework for
such a set of indicators. It is still, however,
necessary to develop this framework further as well
as to implement it and to promote its actual use.
Actions are foreseen concerning, e.g. : (I) further
inclusion of results of HMP projects and other
projects, in order to realise further implementation
and use of the indicator system ; (II) improving the
link with EUPHIN-HIEMS ; (III) better linkage with
the work of WHO/euro, OECD and Eurostat ; (IV)
working out and exploiting the possibilities of more
flexible usage of the system ; and (V) reinforcing
communication of the output from ECHI both to Member
States and the EU, especially in the context of the
development of the Commission's new Action Framework
on Public Health.

Statement of the project's aims The project aims primarily at contributing to the EUPHIN/HIEMS (European Union Public Health Information Network / Health Indicators Exchange and Monitoring System) by establishing the feasibility of delivering epidemiological data about health indicators by developing Health Indicator Profiles which provide information about: 1. the appropriateness of primary care as information source for epidemiological information. 2. the validity and international comparability of this information in order to interpret the information well and to enable valid comparisons between countries.
A secondary aim is to
extend the project activities to EU Member countries
which cannot deliver these epidemiological data so
far.

Statement of the project's aims 1. To identify all routinely and research (large studies) sources of data providing useful information for monitoring COPD and asthma in the EU and Assess their comparability (within and between countries), and their strengths and limitations. 2. Explore to what extent international databases such as OCDE, WHO, Eurostat could be improved based on the information available for these two conditions. 3. To assess the scientific evidence on risk factors (exposures), prevalence, clinical management and policy interventions and explore to what extent the evidence is (or could be incorporated to the information systems). 4. To identify the most important protocol or clinical guidelines recommend by local or international scientific societies implemented in each EU country and assess their comparability. 5. To identify a set of indicators useful for monitoring and covering several aspects of these two conditions such as risk factors, prevalence, clinical management, and outcomes. 6. To get a consensus among participants of all EU countries about a set of indicators recommended being incorporated to the HIEMS and relevant for monitoring and evaluating clinical management and policy decision making for these two conditions. |
