Joint meeting of the High Level Group on Nutrition and Physical Activity and the Platform for Action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health, Luxembourg, 26 October 2018
Today the members of the High Level Group on Nutrition and Physical Activity and the members of the EU Platform for action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health met to discuss progress and actions on priorities such as food reformulation, reducing marketing to children, public procurement of food and physical activity promotion.
The participants heard an update by the Director for Public Health on the current and upcoming Commission activities that are relevant for nutrition and physical activity. In addition, there was a presentation on how the Commission contributes to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals. Furthermore, there was an update provided by the current Austrian Presidency, the announcement by Danone that the company will support the implementation of the Added Sugars Annex and an overview by the Association of European Cancer Leagues on the promotion of the European Code of Cancer and on preventing cancer through actions on diet and physical activity. These presentations underlined the importance that more focus is needed on health promotion and diseases prevention to reduce obesity and non-communicable diseases.
