Thematic meeting on healthy environment
Luxembourg, 28-29 January 2009
The European Commission is hosting, in Luxembourg on 28-29 January 2009, a thematic meeting on healthy environments jointly organised with the Ministry of Health of Luxembourg and WHO Europe. This meeting will contribute to the preparation of the 5th Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health to be held in 2010, in Parma, Italy.
The Commission objective is to foster synergies between its policy goals contained in the European Union Environment and Health Strategy and the pan European process on health and environment.
The thematic meeting will be an opportunity to discuss important environment and health priorities in order to create collaboration between the European Commission, Member States, candidate and neighbourhood countries.
Three themes will be discussed during the first day:
- Respiratory diseases that arise from indoor air pollution and inappropriate indoor environments
- Obesity in children resulting from lack of appropriate urban and spatial planning that promotes increased physical activity in safe and supportive environments.
- Injuries in children arising from unsafe indoor and outdoor environments
The second day will be dedicated to discussing the draft Ministerial Declaration for the fifth Ministerial Conference on health and environment in Parma
