8. Main Content
The regulatory objective of the Law is to establish the legal framework for the marketing of breast-milk substitutes to ensure their correct use, as well as for the practice relating to the provision of accurate, objective and consistent information to consumers. According to the explanatory notes, the Law is based on the principles of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-Milk Substitutes and aims to ensure an adequate and healthy diet for infants and young children.

Key words: breast-feeding, complementary food, breast-milk substitutes

9. Brief Statement of Grounds
Breast-feeding is the optimum method of feeding for most infants and young children and it must therefore be protected, promoted and supported. Breast milk is superior to any infant formula. It contains an ideal balance of nutrients along with other factors that protect against illness. Protecting and promoting breast-feeding ensures an adequate and healthy diet for infants and young children, but also guarantees the correct use of breast-milk substitutes when these are necessary.
