07. Description of the measure |
Supporting the Lisbon agenda with a distinct focus on entrepreneurship and skills, the Dynamo Role Model programme is a network of 300 entrepreneurs. They visit schools, colleges and universities, acting as role models to motivate and inspire young people, encouraging them to raise their aspirations and realise their own potential. Dynamo role models are business owners recruited all over Wales who share their personal stories of success in Enterprise. As entrepreneurs they are best placed to convey the exhilaration of starting and running a business by sharing their personal and often challenging journey.

11.1 Comments/testimonial by business organisation/entrepreneur |
Glenda Johnson runs a dog grooming business in West Wales and has been a role model for several years. She said, “I thoroughly enjoy going into schools. I think it’s important for people with real business experience to talk to students, as they need to learn about real life experiences – and not just theory.”
She places great emphasis on the value of Dynamo: “After presenting, I feel like I have made a difference. Many pupils come up to me after the sessions for a chat and I feel like I have given them an insight into business. I aim to make the sessions interactive, with role play, creative thinking activities and puzzles”

12. Why is this measure a success? Please give information on results and achievements. |
Potentially the largest network of SME role models in Europe who regularly engage with the education sector.
Range by sector, age, gender, product or service. Biggest range is in the story they have to tell! That’s what captures the imagination of young people and adults alike – understanding what it’s really like.
The unique element of the programme and their engagement is their clear enthusiasm for enterprise and their ability to think creativity and encourage creativity in the classroo
|
13. Problems that had to be overcome and lessons learned |
Engagement with the education sector has been established by appointing delivers with a strong track record of education/business partnership work and well established relationships with the schools. The appointment of Entrepreneurship Champions in all colleges and universities to facilitate engagement.
A programme of training for the Role Models prior to participation provides a focus for the entrepreneurial message and helps the Role Models understand the environment they will be presenting in. Mentoring and support is also available to the role models.
