    Gydytojas gastroenterologas gydo virškinamojo trakto, kepenų ir kasos ligas. Jis diagnozuoja virškinimo sistemos ligas ir atlieka medicininį patikrinimą (pilvo ertmės echoskopiją, panendoskopiją, kolonoskopiją, endoskopiškai operuoja, stabdo kraujavimą viršutinėje ir apatinėje virškinamojo trakto dalyje, atlieka pilvo punkciją bei kepenų biopsiją).
