Midlands Innovation

Original name:
Midlands Innovation
United Kingdom

The mission of Midlands innovation is to drive cutting-edge research, innovation and skills development that will grow the high-tech, high skilled economy of the Midlands and the UK and to build global hubs of research and innovation excellence, addressing topics where we can add value; from engineering and transportation, to medical science and the humanities.
These goals will be achieved by exploiting the unique strengths and building on the rich history of collaboration of eight leading Universities across the Midlands: Aston, Birmingham, Cranfield, Keele, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham and Warwick.

Midlands Innovation (MI) is a practical, long-term partnership between world-class universities clustered together in the heart of the UK.
More than just a badge, it is a genuine long-term and structured partnership with initiatives that can only come through creative collaboration, delivering real and sustainable benefit to the region.
The programmes developed are:

  • Energy Research Accelerator (ERA).
  • Enterprise and Innovation.
  • Technical Skills and Expertise.

The purpose of ERA is to work with the UK government, industry and the higher education sector to undertake innovative research, develop the next generation of energy leaders and demonstration low carbon technologies that help to shape the future of the UK’s energy landscape.
The purpose of Enterprise and Innovations is to improve the enterprise collaboration and knowledge transfer. Ideas, information and knowledge generation are integral to the results and outcomes of world-class research.  Translating those ideas and delivering to business requires expertise and guidance; collectively the MI Enterprise Platform interacts with a broad business-base to drive research ideas directly into the economy, job creation and growth.
The purpose of Technical Skills and Expertise to increase the visibility of technical workforce, to recognise its excellence and to start to think about collaboratively supporting its career development.
