Designed to nurture business, the BIC provides access to a network of experts, offering a range of space and business support. First opening its doors in June 1994, the complex has accommodated over 500 businesses. With a progressive and forward thinking management team led by chief executive Paul McEldon, the organisation has a broad portfolio of services including product design, marketing and ICT expertise.
Today, the BIC has helped to create over 7,000 jobs and is currently home to over 120 businesses. The complex itself covers a fourteen acre site and the range of business space includes executive offices and incubator units (ideal for start up businesses), as well as bio-science labs and large industrial facilities.
The BIC has helped over 2,500 businesses to start up in the Tyne and Wear area and has achieved a survival rate which outstrips the national average, with more than 75 per cent of businesses continuing to trade into their third year. In the years the BIC has been operating tenant companies have generated a collective turnover of £400m (€476m).
