Regional Innovation Monitor (RIM) Plus - Last Update: December 2020

The Regional Innovation Monitor Plus (RIM Plus) provides a unique online platform for sharing knowledge and know-how on major innovation and industrial policy trends in the EU regions.

More about RIM Plus

Launched in 2010, the Regional Innovation Monitor supports sharing of intelligence on innovation policies in some 181 regions across 19 EU Member States. Based on the work of a network of experts, it provides detailed information on regional innovation policies in: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden. Information about the United Kingdom has only been collected until the country’s withdrawal from the EU on the 31st of January 2020.

The platform includes an online 'inventory' of regional innovation policy measures, policy documents and organizations.

Since 2017 RIM Plus ran under the Regional Co-operation Networks for Industrial Modernisation Initiative (ReConfirm). ReConfirm is a project designed specifically to assist European regions and industrial stakeholders in implementing their action plans under the Smart Specialisation Platform for Industrial Modernisation

Building upon the experience gained and results obtained during the implementation in the period 2010-2016, in 2017-2020 the RIM Plus regional profiles will continue to be updated with an increased focus on Regional Smart Specialisation Strategies.

The consortium implementing ReConfirm and updating RIM Plus - comprised of Ecorys (leader), SPI, META, Inno Group, EBN, and EURADA - successfully accomplished its contractual tasks at the end of 2020. The last and final update of the RIM regional profiles was carried out in December 2020.

Information and analysis of policy documents, governance structures, and existing innovation policy measures is gathered at the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS) 1 and 2 levels. Where relevant, information is provided on innovation policy initiatives at sub-regional level and on inter- and/or intra-regional cooperation.
