Who we work for

Who we work for

Certain groups in society, such as people from ethnic minorities or seniors, face additional difficulties when trying to set up businesses. The Commission pays special attention to these groups and aims to help them overcome the challenges. It also recognises the importance of other forms of enterprises, such as cooperatives and mutual societies, to the EU economy. The objective is to ensure that these businesses don't face any disadvantages on the EU's marketplace.

What the Commission does

Female entrepreneurs

Even though there are more women than men in Europe, female entrepreneurs represent only a third of the self-employed in the EU. The Commission is working with EU countries to help women overcome the obstacles to become entrepreneurs and encourage them to start their own companies. Learn more about female entrepreneurs.

Family business

Family businesses make up more than 60% of all companies in Europe and they play a significant role in the EU economy. The Commission recognises this role and promotes the creation of a favourable environment where family businesses can grow. Learn more about family business.

Liberal professions

The liberal professions include lawyers, notaries, engineers, architects, doctors, dentists, accountants, and many others. The Commission seeks to identify the main challenges these professionals face and help create an environment where they can further develop their skills. Learn more about liberal professions.

Migrant entrepreneurs

Migrants represent an important pool of potential entrepreneurs. The Commission aims to create policy that helps attract talented would-be entrepreneurs from non-EU countries and ensure business support reaches all potential entrepreneurs. Learn more about migrant entrepreneurs.

Senior entrepreneurs

Seniors are increasingly interested in becoming entrepreneurs and retired business people can provide precious knowledge and skills for budding entrepreneurs. The Commission is exploring how to benefit from the knowledge and skills of seniors, and how to ensure that they are able to go into business for themselves. Learn more about senior entrepreneurs.
