Since 2014, the European Commission has been collecting data on postal services in cooperation with the Postal National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) of participating countries in the context of the 'EU Postal Survey'. The aim of these postal statistics is to provide a single source of information and become an analytical working tool for all possible users of postal data at the European level.
The data is collected annually from 33 countries that participate in the data collection exercise on a voluntarily basis including the 28 EU Member States, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland.
The European postal statistics are updated regularly. EU28 totals are calculated provided that 55% of the EU population and 60% of the EU countries are covered, given that certain rules of confidentiality apply.
The latest available data covers 2016.
