This initiative promotes international cluster cooperation by intensifying cluster and business network collaboration across borders and sectoral boundaries within and beyond Europe. As a result, it supports European strategic cluster partnerships so they can lead international cooperation in new areas, helping European SMEs integrate into global value chains.
To promote international cluster cooperation, several initiatives were set up.
The European Cluster Collaboration Platform (ECCP)
It facilitates cluster cooperation within the EU and helps clusters access international markets. This lets European cluster organisations profile themselves, exchange experience and search for potential partners for transnational cooperation.
The ECCP currently includes over 1,000 cluster organisations from across Europe.
International cluster matchmaking events
These events offer cooperation opportunities for European cluster organisations with partners within and beyond Europe. Matchmaking events take place in third markets as well as in Europe. They bring together cluster delegations from Europe and third countries to promote business opportunities and partnerships in strategic fields of mutual interest. Some European events target different sectors to promote cross-sectoral cooperation and help create new value chains in Europe.
European strategic cluster partnerships (ESCPs)
We promote these partnerships to lead international cluster cooperation in new areas, notably in support of emerging industries. ESCPs encourage European clusters to cooperate, synergise and develop a joint ‘European’ strategic vision with a global perspective and common goals towards specific third markets. These partnerships can help European SMEs compete better internationally in strategic fields.
‘Clusters go international' was launched under COSME to help establish and develop European strategic cluster partnerships. See the ECCP website for results from the first generation and information on the ongoing second generation. The third generation will start in 2020.
