  • It's possible to have less waste, more jobs, material and energy savings as well as satisfied customers. 'Smart factories', 'clean technologies' and 'customer experience' are trends enabling this. They share a systemic view with circular feedback loops. The focus is on the co-creation of value instead of on its extraction and sale. Linear views are more short-term and geared towards 'passive market transactions'.
  • Many companies driving the aforementioned 3 trends use business models based on 'learning by using' and 'learning by interacting'. EU policies on education and training are outdated in comparison.
  • The challenge lies in how to promote interactive learning between those who offer solutions and those who need and apply such solutions. This calls for a strategic view, active participation and support from policy makers, because without 'smart factories' Europe will continue to lose jobs. Without 'cleantech' we will produce more and more waste. And without offering a better 'customer experience' we will lose clients.
