Our workshop 'Delivering for the future II: Developments in the postal sector' took place in Brussels on 19 September 2018.
Copenhagen Economics presented the conclusions of the study on the 'main developments in the European postal sector in the period 2013-2016'. The main objective of the study is to provide objective elements and evidence to assess the ongoing and future suitability of the current EU legal framework, and to allow a comprehensive assessment of development in the postal sector. The findings of this study will be also used as input for the obligation under Article 23 of the Postal Services Directive to submit a report on the application of the Postal Services Directive to the European Parliament and Council.
WIK Consult presented the interim findings of the study for which they have been commissioned on developments in the cross-border e-commerce parcel delivery market, including the results of the consumer survey. The study also examines market developments, in particular the impact of new technologies, as well as regulatory, social and environmental issues and the needs of e-retailers.
The European Commission and the European Regulators Group for Postal Services gave a short update on the implementation of the Regulation on Cross-border Parcel Delivery Services (Regulation (EU) 2018/644). The Commission Implementing Regulation on establishing the forms for the submission of information (Regulation (EU) 2018/1263) was adopted on 20 September 2018.
