Commission publishes 2018 update on simplifying start-up procedures in EU countries
Published on: 25/03/2019
Simplification of administrative procedures remains high on the EU political agenda. The Commission monitors progress by all EU countries in simplifying start-up procedures and reducing the time and cost of registering a company.

In 2018, the average time to start a private limited company was 3.1 days and the cost was €300. However, there is a growing trend in EU countries to provide entrepreneurs with the possibility to register a company online. For electronic registration the average time to register a company was 2.7 days and the cost was €271.

The average time to register a private limited company remained the same as in 2017. The reduction of the average cost was mostly due to a decrease observed in Latvia, Cyprus and Greece.
