The Chief Economist team at the Directorate-General (DG) for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs is responsible for the development, coordination and production of economic analysis. It ensures that the initiatives of the DG are based on sound economic evidence. It is led by Kamil Kiljański.
The team gives particular attention to two of the Juncker's Commission's top priorities – 'Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness' and the 'Digital Single Market'. It does this by monitoring and analysing the functioning of the EU Single Market, as well as the competitiveness of EU industries and enterprises.
As part of the Commission's Better Regulation Agenda, the members of the Chief Economist Team also implement the provisions of the new Better Regulation Package at the level of the DG. They make sure that impact assessments accompanying the DG's new initiatives and evaluations reviewing the existing work of the DG are of the highest standard.
Finally the Chief Economist Team stimulates economic debate within the DG and beyond. It does this in cooperation with academia and other Commission services by organising regular economic seminars on topics related to the DG’s work.
