A political show by Christine Eder (Text) and Eva Jantschitsch (Music), directed by Christine Eder
What do we need a constitution for? What does it say, who is it for, whom does is protect? Is anything missing? And who should be in dcharge of protecting the constitution? Do you know your rights? Are you „constitution competent”?
For the 100th anniversary of the Austrian constitution, Christine Eder has written a play assembled from original quotes and documents. The main question is: What is democracy? Starting with and based on the biography of Hans Kelsen (1881–1973), the author of the original draft of the Austrian constitution, the play moves through time up to the present and addresses current controversial issues like freedom of speech, protection of minorities, surveillance of citizens, emergency legislation, subjective safety and the influence of the economy on governments and their legislation.
