Bottleneck to be addressed
Due to its apparent novelty, complexity, limitlessness and rapid development, the collaborative economy and its role and influence on society have become unfathomable for many. It is a global megatrend that is hitting the world like a wave. The question is where on that wave one wants to be. Being swept away by the wave, ride on top of the wave or co-create the wave? Existing EU policies concerning the collaborative economy are not comprehensive enough; they tend to focus either on the digital platform component, the economic component or the social aspects.
The collaborative economy has the potential to be a driving force or vehicle behind many Circular Economy initiatives, empowering circular consumption and CO2 reduction. It also fosters social cohesion and social inclusion.
Better knowledge of the collaborative economy empowers members of the Partnership Circular Economy, their peers and other stakeholders to competently interact with it, whether to mitigate its negative impacts or facilitate the positive. Better knowledge of the collaborative economy should empower stakeholders to competently interact with it. With a more holistic and current view of the collaborative economy, stakeholders (including relevant government departments at EU, national and local level) will be able to make the most of its benefits as well as anticipate and mitigate possible negative impacts. This will be done by field research followed by a step-by-step approach to fine-tune and disseminate acquired knowledge.
A comprehensive Knowledge Pack on Collaborative Economy, including: assessment of typologies of collaborative circular initiatives across the EU; a research paper with relevant local, national and EU policies and their impact on aforementioned initiatives; a co-created collaborative economy conference; a White paper created in partnerships with stakeholders; a factsheet, Infographics & Video; and a Workshop and webinars for city officials and other stakeholders. Application of results by partner cities in their policy development process will be pursued.
