The workshop was organized by DG CONNECT, JUST, FISMA during the eGovernment week and aimed at getting first-hand information on various remote on-boarding technologies and solutions developed by financial institutions or third-party providers working in the financial sector.
The presentations and live demos allowed to present both well-established, successfully tested and more recent, innovative solutions focussing on the process of opening a bank account on-line. They also demonstrated how these solutions and processes comply with national Anti Money Laundering requirements and how they can support the emergence of interoperable and legally compliant portable remote Customer Due Diligence processes across borders.
Various organisations presented their business model for on-boarding of customers, thus providing useful input for reflection and basis for further work. Undoubtedly, it was a very successful and informative event both for the European Commission services and for the members of the Expert group on electronic identification and remote Know-Your’s-Customer.
