SMEs represent 99% of all businesses in the EU. They are the backbone of Europe's economy. In an increasingly digitalised world, eIDAS presents compelling ways to improve SMEs' operations across borders, securely and conveniently. However, most SMEs have limited knowledge, financial or organisational capacity to make full use of the available tools. We would therefore like to raise awareness about eIDAS and the opportunity it brings to become more competitive beyond national domestic markets in a growing online economy that does not stop at national borders.

For this, we need to understand the specific needs of SMEs and how we could facilitate digitalising their business processes with eID and Trust Services. 

To do it, we have recently asked Deloitte to analyse the current market for eID and Trust Services. The study will explore the needs and barriers for use of these digital solutions and the key output of the study will serve as an eIDAS pilot programme for SMEs based on a communication toolbox on the potential uses and benefits of eID and Trust Services for SMEs. SMEs will then be able to use these tools and communication materials to learn more about using eID and Trust Services.

As part of the study, we have launched a survey to:

• Collect information on the current awareness and use of eID and Trust Services among SMEs;
• Identify the needs of SMEs regarding the use of eID and Trust Services;
• Gather information that will help with the design of the toolbox and communication campaign (e.g. regarding most appropriate tools; channels of communication etc.).

The survey will only take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and will certainly help us help you.

We will keep your answers confidential; the results of the survey will be presented only in an aggregated way with no possibility to trace back the results to individual contributions to this survey.
