A second round of coordinated pan-European testing for horse meat DNA in beef products was launched in April 2014 and finalised in July following a positive endorsement by the EU countries of a new Commission Recommendation.

The findings were encouraging as they showed that the situation had significantly improved since 2013. In the overall result of the recent coordinated testing in the EU countries in 2014 only 0.61% of the samples tested positive for horse meat DNA, as compared to 4.6% in 2013.
