SPS requirements for exporting to the Russian Federation

Please note the as of 7 August 2014 the Russian Federation has prohibited the import of a number of agricultural products from the EU.

The Russian import SPS requirements are set by two federal agencies: Rosselkhoznadzor and Rospotrebnadzor.

Since 2010 Russia has engaged into harmonising its Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) norms with Kazakhstan and Belarus, in the framework of a Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia.

Some bilateral SPS conditions negotiated by the Commission for certain products coexist with rules set by the Russian and Customs Union legal framework. These conditions involve also the EU Members States competent authorities in charge of the controls over the production of the concerned products.
