Farm to Fork conference - Building sustainable food systems together

Farm to Fork conference - Building sustainable food systems together

The ‘Farm to Fork Conference - Building sustainable food systems together’ is an annual gathering of European stakeholders interested in helping to shape the EU’s path towards sustainable food systems.

Stakeholders across the food value chain, public authorities, international and civil society organisations, as well as other citizens and the interested public are invited to join the debate every year and contribute to the implementation of the Farm to Fork Strategy for a fair, healthy and environmentally friendly food system.

The event also provides a forum for discussion on the challenges and opportunities linked to the transition to sustainable food systems, as well as on possible further areas of intervention.

Farm to Fork conference - Building sustainable food systems together

The Farm to Fork 2020 conference: Building sustainable food systems together was the first annual gathering of European stakeholders willing to engage and help shape the EU's path towards a fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food system.

The virtual conference was held on the mornings of the 15 and 16 October 2020 (World Food Day). It focused on the Farm to Fork Strategy, adopted in May 2020, for a fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food system which, together with the Biodiversity Strategy, is at the heart of the European Green Deal.

The event was a first opportunity to gather all key players including public authorities, academia and actors in the food value chain - from farmers, food manufacturers, retailers, hospitality and food services to consumers - to discuss the move towards sustainable food systems. Over 1000 stakeholders participated via the event virtual platform, with another 8000 viewers per day following the live web streaming. More than 80 1:1 virtual networking sessions took place on the event’s virtual platform during the two days. The conference largely demonstrated that each and everyone's contribution is needed. The dynamic interactions and high interest also revealed an appetite for working together to transform our food system.
