In the continued efforts to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated fishery (IUU) globally, Karmenu Vella, Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, will launch the EU’s first IT tool, called “CATCH”, conceived to streamline the checks of seafood products entering the EU market.

The European Market Observatory for Fishery and Aquaculture Products (EUMOFA) will participate in two major fisheries events in May, the world's largest trade fair dedicated to the fishery sector. Seafood Expo Global takes place in Brussels from 7-9 May, while the European Maritime Day, is in Lisbon from 16-17 May.

The European Parliament has adopted the political agreement reached in February between the co-legislators on the Commission’s proposal for decentralised and simplified technical rules. The new rules will give fishermen a stronger say in deciding on the best measures for sustainable fishing, adapted to their specific needs.
