Kopējā pieļaujamā nozveja (KPN) jeb zvejas iespējas ir nozvejas ierobežojumi, kas izteikti tonnās vai skaitļos un ir noteikti lielākajai daļai komerciālo zivju sugu krājumu. Komisija sagatavo priekšlikumus, pamatojoties uz zinātniskajiem atzinumiem par zivju krājumu stāvokli, ko izstrādājušas tādas konsultējošas organizācijas kā Starptautiskā Jūras pētniecības padome (ICES) un Zivsaimniecības zinātnes, tehnikas un ekonomikas komiteja (STECF). Dažos daudzgadu plānos ir noteikumi par KPN fiksēšanu. Zivsaimniecības ministru Padome reizi gadā nosaka kopējo pieļaujamo nozveju lielākajai daļai zivju resursu (reizi divos gados dziļjūras zivju resursiem). Kad krājumus izmanto un pārvalda kopīgi ar ārpussavienības valstīm, vienošanās par KPN tiek panākta ar attiecīgajām valstīm (to grupām).

KPN sadala starp ES valstīm, piešķirot valstu kvotas.  Tās sadala, piemērojot dažādām valstīm un dažādiem zivju krājumiem atšķirīgus koeficientus, kas atbilst konkrētajai kvotai.  Mērķis ir saglabāt relatīvu stabilitāti. ES valstis var apmainīties ar kvotām ar citām ES valstīm.

Sadalot valsts kvotu starp zvejniekiem, ES valstīm ir jāizmanto pārredzami un objektīvi kritēriji.  Tās ir atbildīgas par to, lai kvotas netiktu pārsniegtas.  Kad konkrētā kvota ir izsmelta, valstij jāpārtrauc attiecīgās sugas zivju zveja.

Vidusjūras baseina zivsaimniecībā parasti veic tikai ieguldījumu pārraudzību.
