Nesen reformētā kopējā zivsaimniecības politika (25. panta 2. punkts) nosaka datu vākšanas pamatprincipus:
Šos principus Komisija ņems vērā priekšlikumā par datu vākšanas sistēmas noteikumu pārskatīšanu, kas pašlaik tiek izstrādāts.
