By linking external trade statistics with general business registers it is possible to reconcile trade flows by enterprise characteristics, for instance by sector of activity or by size of traders. In 2002, Eurostat launched a pilot study to test the feasibility of linking and to produce predefined tables. This paper provides an overview of the methodology and a summary of the main findings of the pilot study.
