Over 6.6 million tonnes of beef and almost one million tonnes of veal were produced in the EU in 2015.
Almost half of the total beef production in the EU came from France (19 %), Germany (15 %) and the United Kingdom (12 %), while almost half of the veal production came from Spain (23 %) and the Netherlands (23 %).
What is the difference between beef and veal? Veal comes from animals that are less than one year old (calves and young cattle), while beef comes from animals of more than one year.
