In 2016, 83 % of EU's exports were manufactured goods, with machinery and vehicles (mostly road vehicles) accounting for 43 %, other manufactured goods (including semi-manufactured goods such as leather, rubber and wood and more labour-intense products, such as clothes and shoes) for 23 % and chemicals (also including pharmaceutical products and plastics) for 18 %.
Lower than for export, 68 % of EU's imports were manufactured goods, with machinery and vehicles accounting for 32 %, other manufactured goods for 26 % and chemicals for 11%.
The EU's main partner for exports of manufactured goods is the United States and for imports it is China.
