Background - International statistical cooperation
Eurostat has an active programme of cooperation with third countries to support them in building statistical capacity to produce good quality official statistics. Actions take place in the framework of the EU's relationship to these countries and in liaison with Europeaid and the European External Action Service (EEAS).
Eurostat is keen to share the values, tools and practice of the European Statistical System (ESS) with partner institutions across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and the Pacific, as well as to meet the considerable international interest in how Eurostat and the ESS function. Eurostat gives particular priority to supporting capacity building of statistical organisations at the regional, or supra-national, level.
In addition to directing efforts towards regional organisations, other pillars of Eurostat's approach are the promotion of a range of statistical tools, and the transfer of ESS values, tools and practice through the organisation of capacity building events such as high-level seminars and workshops.
