Eurostat closely monitors the development of government finance and EDP statistics of EU candidate countries to help them comply with the EU legislation (EU acquis).
To this end and to prepare them for EU membership, Eurostat has integrated the candidate countries into its government finance and EDP statistics working processes. Thereby they learn, for example, how to apply the concepts and methodology of ESA 2010 and the Manual of Government Deficit and Debt (MGDD).
This also includes technical visits to the countries and publication of GFS and EDP data, whenever their quality allows publication. The number and quality of GFS and EDP data transmitted to Eurostat varies among the candidate countries.
The candidate countries are: Montenegro, the Republic of North Macedonia, Albania, Serbia and Turkey.
