Postal codes - GISCO
A postal code is a series of letters and/or numbers for sorting mail. The postal code point dataset shows the location of postal codes, NUTS codes and the Degree of Urbanisation classification across the EU, EFTA and candidate countries from a variety of sources. Its primary purpose is to create correspondence tables for the NUTS classification (EC) 1059/2003 as part of the Tercet Regulation (EU) 2017/2391. These correspondence tables are available for download from our Tercet Flat Files page.
The dataset is released under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 licence and requires the following attribution whenever used:
"© European Union - GISCO, 2021, postal code point dataset, Licence CC-BY-SA 4.0 available at https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/gisco/geodata/reference-data."
The data lineage and processing steps are detailed in the methodological file.
“Non-geographical” postal codes (e.g. post boxes and postal codes used by large organisations) are not included in this dataset due to their unavailability in the majority of the data sources. Please note that due to the very diverse and complex situation in Europe, it is possible that not all existing postal codes are included or correctly located. Any omissions or errors should be reported to Eurostat’s User Support.
