Main conclusions 21 October 2019 meeting
The Committee continued the discussion on the use of population registers for sample drawing for large cross-European scientific surveys. Also, it advanced with drafting of an overview of national user councils and plans to strengthen its cooperation with them. The preparation of the CESS 2020 conference continued and ideas on collaboration with ESGAB were discussed further. The committee drafted the European Statistics Day Declaration and appointed new members to its Executive Board.

Main conclusions of 13 June 2019 meeting
Six new members were welcomed to ESAC. Eurostat gave a presentation on Eurostat as well as on the European Statistical system (ESS) and the European Parliament Research Service gave a presentation on its activities. Eurostat updated ESAC on the Bucharest Memorandum on Official Statistics in a Datafied Society (Trusted Smart Statistics, TSS) and on the conclusions of the Workshop on collaborative economies.
The Committee issued an opinion on the Work Programme 2020. It discussed the use of population registers for sample drawing for large cross-European scientific surveys; an overview on national user councils as well as possible contribution of ESAC to the Task Force Peer reviews. It also discussed collaboration with ESGAB and started to plan the next CESS conference.

Main conclusions of 1 February 2019 meeting
Eurostat updated ESAC on the Bucharest Memorandum on Official Statistics in a Datafied Society (Trusted Smart Statistics, TSS), on the next ESS round of peer reviews and on other recent developments on statistical domains. The Committee drafted an opinion on the draft strategic priorities for the European statistics Annual Work Programme for 2020. It also discussed the use of population registers for sample drawing for large cross-European scientific surveys and the collaboration with ESGAB and started to plan the next CESS conference. Main conclusions of 17 October 2018 meeting
The Committee finalised the recommendations of the ESAC workshop ”New perspectives and priorities for EU 2030 Indicators”, held in Rome on 8 June 2018. Eurostat informed ESAC on the state of play of the European statistical Programme beyond 2020. In addition, Eurostat updated the Committee on the discussions held at the DGINS Conference and the ESS Committee meeting on 10-12 October, the development of the Business Sector Profile (BSP) tool and the outcomes of the DIGICOM study on the branding of Eurostat. Main conclusions of 7 June 2018 meeting
Eurostat informed ESAC about the results of an informal ESSC workshop in Sofia 22-23 May 2018 on the next round of Peer Reviews, adoption of the third Data Package and the Commission proposal for the Single Market Programme. The Committee discussed the details of the ESAC Workshop “New perspectives and priorities for EU 2030 Indicators”, plans for the 3rd Conference of European Statistics Stakeholders (CESS2018) and the motto of the European Statistics Day 2018. The Committee met Enrico Giovannini, ESGAB Chair to discuss possible collaboration in the future. ESAC also discussed a paper and recommendations on “The role of communication in Statistical Science and the strategies of communication for statistics users” and welcomed new members who started their 5-year term 1st April 2018: Petra Lang, Matthieu Méaulle and Petr Zahradník (Caroline Willeke and Fulvio Martusciello could not participate). Main conclusions of 6 February 2018 meeting
Eurostat updated ESAC on the implementation of the ESS Vision 2020 with a focus on Big Data, the revision of the code of Practice and ESS activities related to globalisation. The Committee discussed the draft strategic priorities of the European statistics Annual Work Programme for 2019, the European Statistical Programme (ESP) beyond 2020 and participation in CESS2018. Main conclusions of 19 October 2017 meeting
The Committee agreed the final statement of the European Statistics Day conference and a statement to be published on the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). Eurostat updated ESAC on the consultation of the European Statistical Programme beyond 2020 and on the Power from Statistics conference. The Committee discussed a draft paper on micro-macro data linking in relation to statistics on income, consumption and wealth; statistical development, financing and collaboration in relation to geocoding; and plans for the 2018 Conference of European Statistics Stakeholders. Main conclusions of 12-13 June 2017 meeting
The Committee met Martti Hetemäki, ESGAB Chair, and discussed common areas of interest and possible ways of collaboration in the future. Eurostat updated ESAC on the situation on the Annual Work Programme for 2018, the European Statistical Programme 2018-2020 and the European Statistical Programme beyond 2020. Main conclusions of 27 January 2017 meeting
The Committee discussed the draft strategic priorities of the European statistics Annual Work Programme for 2018 and the final report of the Expert Group on quality of life indicators.
The meeting also included information from Eurostat on the state of play of the extension of the European Statistical Programme (ESP) 2018-20 and the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between Eurostat and the European Central Bank. The Memorandum concerns the practical working arrangements for cooperation between Eurostat and the ECB Directorate General Statistics on the quality assurance of statistics underlying the macro imbalances procedure.
In addition, Eurostat updated the Committee on progress with the project on digital communication, user analytics and innovative products (DIGICOM) and the activities of the Task Force on Big Data. More about the ESAC meeting of 27 January 2017 here.
Main conclusions of 19 October 2016 meeting
The Committee discussed Sustainable Development Goal indicators and draft recommendations for the European Commission to take into consideration when translating the Sustainable Development Goals into European actions.
Eurostat informed ESAC about the recent adoption of the Vienna Memorandum and Quality Declaration of the ESS and ESAC was briefed on the state of play of the extension of the European Statistical Programme (ESP) 2018-20.
The ESAC meeting took place on the eve of the first European Statistics Day. ESAC welcomed the different national activities organised on 20 October 2016, published under "Latest news" on ESS website, and discussed the preparation for European Statistics Day 2017. Main conclusions of 11 May 2016 meeting
The plenary meeting on 11 May focused on the organisation of the Second Conference of European Statistics Stakeholders in Budapest and the celebration of the European Statistics Day. Read more: http://www.ksh.hu/cess2016
ESAC is actively participating in the meetings of various directors groups organised by Eurostat. The Committee envisages a workshop on migration statistics in autumn 2017 and is following up the implementation of a strategic ESS Vision 2020 project “Digital communication, User analytics and Innovative products”. Main conclusion of 29 January 2016 meeting
ESAC meeting on 29 January 2016 focussed on strategic discussion about the annual work programme 2017 and the extension of the European statistical programme 2018-20. Formal opinions on these issues are being prepared. Moreover, ESAC is preparing two events for 2016:
- 20 – 21 October 2016 Conference of European Statistics Stakeholders in Budapest brings together European methodologists, producers, and users of statistics. Call for papers and details about the event.
- 10 May 2016 workshop in the Hague on indicators will reflect and advise about different approaches and processes for constructing, using and communicating indicators from a European users' perspective. The workshop participation is by invitation only.
ESAC also welcomed four new members who started their 5-year term in January 2016: David Hand (absent), Claudiu Herteliu, Ariane König and Biruta Sloka.
