Business and consumer surveys - Euro-indicators
Business and consumer surveys
What is it about?
Business and consumer surveys (BCS) are a Commissionʼs Joint Harmonised EU programme. BCS supply a wide range of information on current economic activity and its perspectives based on opinions of economic actors, such as entrepreneurs and consumers.
The information provided is essential for economic surveillance, short-term forecasting and economic research. Data from the surveys are also used in the detection of turning points in the economic cycle. They are a key complement to official statistics, which are often available only after long delays.
What information can I find here?
Business and consumer surveys cover the following domains: industry, services, retail trade, finance, construction and consumers. Moreover, synthetic indicators such as confidence indicators, the economic sentiment indicator (ESI) and the employment expectations indicator (EEI) are also presented.
Data are generally presented as balances between the percentage of positive and negative answers to each question. They are available as both non-seasonally adjusted and seasonally adjusted data.
For more detailed information please see the website of the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs.
Below you can access data from the business and consumer surveys, either using our ready-made tables or datasets. The latter provide more detailed information and give you the possibility to customise your data extraction. Please see also the release calendar.
