What is it about?
Business and consumer surveys (BCS) are a Commission's Joint Harmonised EU programme. BCS supply a wide range of information on current economic activity and its perspectives based on opinion of economic actors, such as entrepreneurs and consumers.
The information provided is essential for economic surveillance, short-term forecasting and economic research. Surveys data are also used in the detection of turning points in the economic cycle. They are a key complement to official statistics, which are often available only after long delays.
What information can I find here?
Business and consumer surveys cover the following domains: industry, services, retail trade, building and consumers. Moreover, synthetic indicators such as confidence indicators and the economic sentiment indicator (ESI) are also presented.
Data are generally presented as balances between the percentage of positive and negative answers to each questions. They are available both as non-seasonally adjusted and seasonally adjusted.
For more detailed information on Business and consumer surveys, please see the user guide or the website of the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs.
Below you can access the business and consumer surveys data either using our ready-made tables or datasets. The latter provide some more detailed information and give you the possibility to customise your data extraction. Please see also the release calendar.
