From 20 October 2017, pupils, students and other users of statistics or just passers-by will be invited to the Open Door Fridays for four weeks. Quizzes will be organized, services of Eurostat and Statistics Lithuania will be presented, the European Statistical System will be described, and consultations based on the needs expressed by users will be carried out.
Statistics and design workshops for future designers from Vilnius College of Technologies and Design is held for the fourth consecutive autumn. During the workshops, students have an opportunity to learn not only how to visualize statistics but also to understand its benefit for making personal or state-level decisions.
The seminar “The reality and vision of the dissemination of statistics. Numbers for EMOJI generation” for statistical institutes, academic community and journalists is organised togehter with another producer of official statistics – Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania.
On 29 January 2016, Statistics Lithuania organised an annual press conference. The annual press conference is an important event, when Statistics Lithuania reviews, from different perspectives, how the country succeeded in the past year.
At the press conference, Director General Vilija Lapėnienė presented the main country’s economic and social indicators for 2015: GDP, inflation, industrial, foreign and domestic trade, enterprise, construction, transport, agricultural indicators and their changes, the demographic situation, the scale of emigration and immigration, employment, unemployment, consumer opinion indicators.
In 2015, the GDP continued growing, the unemployment rate was on the decrease, real earnings and household final consumption expenditure – on the increase. Although the economic growth was slower than previously, steady positive changes were observed in almost all economic sectors.
35 second-year students of the Design Faculty of Vilnius College of Technologies and Design with their professors Jonas Malinauskas and Jonas Liugaila participated in the event dedicated to World Statistics Day. Specialists of Statistics Lithuania helped the students understand numbers. During the workshop the students learned about the official statistics and designed information graphics presenting statistical messages in an attractive way. The work of students was a pleasant surprise for statisticians as their information graphics were picturesque and informative.
