The IFC report on business intelligence systems and central bank statistics was published this week on the IFC Publications Webpage

Central banks increasingly need to use business intelligence (BI) systems to collect, manage and analyse data in order to inform policy decisions. This report presents the results of a survey conducted by the BIS’s Irving Fisher Committee on Central Bank Statistics (IFC) in 2019.

On the occasion of the European Statistics Day, Statistics Lithuania traditionally organizes Statistics and Design Workshop for future designers from Vilnius College of Technologies and Design. The workshop provides an opportunity for students to learn not only how to visualize statistics but also to understand its benefit for making personal or state-level decisions.

To promote the awareness of sound statistics among young students, Statistics Lithuania joined Eurostat and 16 National Statistical Institutes in launching the third edition of the European Statistics Competition.

Since July 2019, INSTAT has as an acting Director, Ms. Elsa Dhuli, former Director of Director General of Statistical Production. INSTAT has started the Recruitment procedure for the new General Director.

INSTAT has started the preparation for the Pilot Census of Population And Housing 2020, the Pilot Census is planned to be carried out on 21 October 2019.

The Maltese National Statistical office published today an article on the beauty of statistics in Malta’s leading newspaper to promote the European Statistics Day 2019. Online article.

Cystat celebrates the European Statistics Day by organizing the event “The Usefulness of Official Statistics in Cyprus” on 21 October.

Additionally Cystat promotes the European Statistics Day with:

• A dedicated news release for European Statistics Day (Thursday 17 October);
• Pilot of national statistical competition at the higher education level on Monday, 21 October;
• Social media posts on Twitter;
• Launching of the European Statistics Competition 2019-2020 (Monday 21/10/2019 during the event).

In order to celebrate the European Statistics Day both Statistics Poland and in the Statistical Offices across Poland on October 14-18 will organize Open Days. Open Days will be an excellent chance to present resources of official statistics and popularize statistical knowledge. In addition, due to the 230th anniversary of the first census in Poland and the upcoming National Population and Housing Census and Agricultural Census, Open days will be an opportunity to promote both surveys.

The following activities will be carried out during the European Statistics Day event:

• announcement of the start of recruitment for the European Statistical Competition;
• classes for young people, during which youngsters will learn the basics of official statistics, census history and the Central Statistical Library;
• posts related to statistics, the European Day of Statistics, infographic presenting Poland against the background of European Union countries will be posted on the websites and social media of the offices;
• consultations will be organized on obtaining statistical data for diploma and master's for students and pupils, as well as consultations regarding the determination of the classification for entrepreneurs and persons planning to start a business activity;
• one of the regional statistical offices planned an exhibition of census publications at that time;
• one of the regional statistical offices will take part in the Job Fair organized by the university.

The State Statistical Office of the Republic of North Macedonia celebrated the European Statistics Day through several activities:

October 16

• a Memorandum on cooperation was signed with the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of North Macedonia.

October 18

• SSO published the 2019 edition of the Statistical Yearbook and promoted it on Facebook and Twitter;
• SSO was part of the morning show of the national TV Alfa with live streaming from the SSO premises in Skopje. This show was live streamed on the SSO Facebook page.;
• a press release was published on SSO website dedicated to the celebration of the European Statistics Day.

October 28

• together with the National Bank SSO organised an event dedicated to the European Statistics Day. The main topic of the event was “The role of the European central banking community in the provision of European Statistics” with a key speaker from the European Central Bank.
