The population of the Czech Republic increased by 18.6 thousand to 10 572.4 thousand in the first three quarters of 2016. Almost one third of the population growth was due to positive natural change. In the year-on-year comparison the number of live births (85.4 thousand) was higher together with the significantly lower number of deaths (79.4 thousands).
The net migration added a total of 12.6 thousand inhabitants. In the comparison with the previous year the numbers of marriages (43.4 thousand) and immigrants (27.6 thousand) were higher and also the numbers of divorces and emigrants slightly increased.
This brochure, its ninth edition, was compiled in order to provide again a comprehensive overview of statistical indicators about the development of the information economy in the Czech Republic and where possible also in other, mainly EU, countries.
On the occasion of the European Statistics Day on 20th October 2016 the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) has planned the following activities:
The Office has prepared a press conference on the most popular child names in the Czech Republic. This year we will bring data for January 2016 including their breakdown by region.
The CZSO will announce the national round of the international competition of the ISLP Poster Competition 2016-2017 for the best statistical poster. Registration will be open for schools till the end of December 2016.
The Office will publish a video opinion survey among important persons of statistics on "Which way and/or how do high-quality statistical data contribute to better life in your opinion?". The findings will be published in the October issue of "Statistika & My journal" that will be dedicated to the European Statistics Day.
The CZSO will organise the Central Statistical Library Open Day where the most interesting publications will be exhibited. The Open Day will be followed by an informal afternoon programme with a concert by the singer David Deyl accompanied by the child choir of the Children Home Ústí nad Labem Severní Terasa.
The Office will create a Match Match memory game within CZStat app by the CZSO containing up-to-date statistical data. A special statistics quiz will be launched on the CZSO web pages. Winners will be awarded prizes.
Finally, the mail posted from the CZSO will be marked with a special stamp bearing a reference to the European Statistics Day.
